Stay and Dine at North Conway’s Historical Stonehurst Manor
Published by S. Mathur in New Hampshire Homes Magazine
Stonehurst Manor emerges from a winding drive amid soaring pines, and says Barbara Sisson, Marketing Manager, “The first thing guests notice upon arrival is the view of the Moat Mountains to the west and Mt. Washington from the Adirondack chairs on the front lawn. There is also a tennis court and a life-size chess set in the garden opposite the entrance.” The estate dates back to 1872 and has many of the features of an English manor.
The grand style continues indoors, and “The Manor is known for the oak-paneled Library Martini Lounge with an oversized wood-burning fireplace and extensive list of specialty martinis and classic cocktails in addition to beer, wine and spirits,” adds Sisson, “All of the rooms are uniquely shaped and furnished, as the Manor was originally built as a home for the Bigelow family, carpet barons in the late 1800s.”
The Wild Rose Restaurant features four dining rooms, two with wood-burning fireplaces, with nightly dinner service to Manor guests and the public from 5:30 – 10 pm.
The food is typically New England style cuisine with Italian influences. The wood-fired oven gives meals a unique flavor, says Sisson: “The Manor has a wood-fired oven that is used to prepare the artisan sourdough bread baked daily as well as the signature sourdough pizzas. Croutons made from the sourdough bread are served with the Caesar Salad and the Four-Onion Soup is baked in the wood-fired oven.” Menu choices include Maine Lobster, lamb, roasted duckling, black forest cheesecake, handcrafted pasta, and several unique pizza flavors.
The Manor’s hospitality also takes the form of occasional nibbles timed just right: “Complimentary hors d’oeuvres are passed by the culinary team most afternoons in the Library from 5 to 6 pm and Manor-made chocolate chip cookies are given to every guest at check out,” says Sisson.
The location, too, can’t be beat, just one one mile from North Conway Village on 33 private acres. Sisson says this makes it “very convenient to all the area activities and attractions while being quiet and private.” Guests have access to miles of trails for hiking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing right out the door.
